Gareth Cliff

Who is Gareth Cliff?

I’m a rebel, talker, straight-shooter and wannabe renaissance-man.

What’s your best childhood memory?

I remember birthday parties, playing in the garden sprinklers, dogs and lots of old people who thought I was the best thing ever.

If you had a chance for a “do-over” in life, what would you do differently?

I’m completely content with who and where I am in life. I wouldn’t want to be anyone else and I wouldn’t want to be alive at any other time in the past. The whole point of this exercise is to figure yourself out before you die. I’m getting closer to figuring it out every day.

What do you feel most proud of?

I’m proud of the pioneering and disruption we’ve caused in media, advertising and other spheres of influence. I’ve got more to do, but I’m proud of the opportunities we’ve created for talented young South Africans.

If you could keep only 3 possessions, what would they be and why?

My phone, my credit card and my dog, Carl. I could go anywhere and still get things done.

What would you want your tombstone to say?

You’ll be next.

What is is an online content hub – we produce the very best original talk content in South Africa and we are already Africa’s biggest podcaster.

What’s your favorite kind of coffee?

I’m not a fussy coffee drinker. I can’t pretend to be an expert.

In which coffee shops are we likely to bump into you?

None. I’m a hermit. If I’m in a coffee shop, I’m there for a business meeting.

What does a perfect day look like?

Waking up when I’ve slept enough, wish everyone I care about a happy birthday, eat something healthy. Arrange to see people who make me think. Come up with at least one great idea. Do some exercise. Read as much as I can. Sleep some more.
