Melissa Delport

Who is Melissa Delport?

I have always considered myself a bit of a black sheep. I am someone who dares to be different and pushes boundaries. I am not one for a normal mould. I am a friendly straight up kind of girl who means what I say. I am crazy about food and travel and photography gets the fire in my belly going. I am happiest when I can combine both

What is your best childhood memory?

Visiting my aunts farm in Natal. She would always keep a cow aside because I insisted on milking one and even when ALL the cows had been milked and I only had like 2cm of milk in my bucket I was the happiest human.

If you had a chance for a “do-over” in life, what would you do differently?

I wouldn’t of waited so long to push as hard as I do now in my career. When I was younger I never took a career and freelance as seriously as I do now and looking back I often feel if I pushed harder then I might of been further now. That being said I do believe that every single moment has brought me to this moment in time and I am really happy with the path that I am walking. Believe it or not I was in the fashion industry before. Adamant it was going to be what I wanted to do. I now look back and laugh because it couldn’t be further from my reality if I tried!

What do you feel most proud of?

My natural aptitude to cook and shoot food. I am super grateful to have found something that ignites my soul and really gets me going.

If you could only keep three possessions, what would they be and why?

My phone (sadly) it runs my life, my Kenwood cake mixer (I inherited it from my grand parents) and my rings. 🙂

What do you want your tombstone to say?

I don’t want a tombstone! I want the whole ocean! You can just pick a spot 🙂

What is The Truffle Journal?

The Truffle Journal is a food and travel blog that is my brain child founded out of a love for food. Truffles are considered the diamonds of the kitchen and Journal speaks for itself. I wanted to share the gems I discover along my adventures. Be it recipes, restaurants, amazing products or great travel destinations!

What’s your favorite kind of coffee?

I would have to say that I really enjoy a great latte. I enjoy beans from central and south america as well as Africa (Kenya). I also love discovering and appreciating all different types of brewing methods. Its part of the coffee education! So I’m always game for pour overs, cold brews etc.

In which coffee shops are we likely to bump into you?

The Power and the Glory. They use the Deluxe bean but I also really enjoy Rosetta and Espresso Lab beans.

What does a perfect day look like?

The perfect day for me would be getting lost in a foreign country and losing myself in their food and culture! I have my eye on Italy and Asia at the moment!
